What is the Doggie Fitness Club?
In the Doggie Fitness Club we provide your dog with a personalized
fitness program specifically designed for your dog. It's like having his
own Personal Trainer. A lot of us run busy schedules and oftentimes
we don't have time to provide our dogs with a very basic need:
exercise. Our Fitness program was designed by a Physical
Education Teacher with that in mind: to help all dog owners that
simply don't have the time to give their dog the proper exercise, but
that do want their dog to live longer, healthier, happier lives! Once
enrolled in our program, we will pick up your dog from your residence
and take him to a nearby (dog) park or other (open) space suitable for
exercise and bring him right back to your front door. Prominent pet
health experts as well as dog trainers, including Animal Planet's "The
Dog Whisperer" Cesar Milan, all emphasize the importance of regular
exercise for your dog to improve emotional and physical health as
well as to improve overall behavior and social skills. To get the most
out of the health and mental benefits from exercise, it should be done
frequently and extensively. We'd like to recommend to rigorously
exercise your dog at least 3x a week.
What are the benefits for you and your dog of enrolling in the
Doggie Fitness Club?
Fitness and exercise have the same beneficial affects in dogs as they
do in humans. We already briefly discussed the physical and mental
benefits, but there's more. Dogs build up a level of stress and energy
every day which can determine how they interact with you, your kids,
and other dogs. Exercise releases that stress and energy and leads
to a calmer, well-behaved dog. Chances are you give your dog a quick
walk around the block a few times a day, which is great, but quick
walks are not enough. Dogs need to be dogs and need their special
time where they can run, jump, play, and dig. Do you have the time to
provide this for your dog? If you're like most people, you probably
don't. The Doggie Fitness Club will make sure you'll have another
less thing to worry about by giving your dog the exercise he needs as
often as you choose us to come!
What are the type of activities we do?
The Doggie Fitness Club features a variety of activities and a program
will be set up according to your dog's breed, current condition, needs,
and personality. Just as humans should consult a physician before
embarking upon any exercise routine, we'd like to recommend the
same for your pet. Please have your vet check your dog's heart, lungs,
joints, and overall health to rule out any conditions you might not have
been aware of prior to signing up for our Doggie Fitness Club. All
sessions will start with a Warm-Up activity to warm up the dog's
muscles and body and will end with a Cool-Down activity to prevent
muscle soreness and stiffness. These are some of the activities you
can expect when enrolling your dog in the Doggie Fitness Club:
~ Jogging: depending on the dog, jogging with your dog can be done
leashed or without a leash. Jogging is a great way to introduce the fun
of running for dogs that don't like to run, for example (slightly) obese
dogs or dogs that display lazy behavior;
~ Interval-Training: this is running with change of pace. Your dog will
trot & gallop at set intervals. Since a dog uses different muscle
groups for the two paces, this is a complete body work-out. Interval
training can be done at different levels and is a wonderful tool to start
out-of-shape dogs of with an exercise routine. Distance and intensity
depend on the dog's current condition.
~ Rollerblading: this fun activity allows the dog to run at the speed he
desires. Interval training is often incorporated when rollerblading.
~ Frisbee Play: whether he can catch it or not, the fun is in the chasing
of the frisbee and getting there before we can!;
~ Ball Activities, like Go Fetch, Chasing Balls, Soccer, Football, more:
usually a dog's favorite activity;
~ Swimming: this is a great low-impact activity and especially
recommended for dogs with special conditions, like arthritis.
Swimming cannot be offered in all areas and depends on the location
of your residence;
~ Dig & Eat Game: we'll bury the treat and your dog will have the fun of
digging it back up! What a joy!
~ Agility: have your dog gain confidence and improve his coordination
with fun agility activities. Agility cannot be offered in all areas and can
only be provided if you live in the neighborhood of a dog park that has
agility equipment. Please note that all agility activities offered are for
fun and exercise only. We do not prepare your dog for agility
competitions of any kind;
~ Play Interaction with other dogs: this could be an activity on its own,
if needed, or intertwined with other activities. Socialization with other
dogs is a basic need for a dog and will improve your dog's social
skills around other animals in your house and/or neighborhood.
